Description

Complicated digestive issues forced Shirley to have gallbladder surgery in 2004.  The doctor said that removing the gallbladder should “fix” any digestive issues.  After the surgery, Shirley found that her digestion worsened to the point of hospitalization in 2010.

Shirley’s body filled with bile.  The medical world offered help to slow the bile but Shirley was determined to learn more about her digestion.  Her quest was to heal digestion, not rely on medications to cover the symptoms.  With help from her husband, Peter, Shirley was able to heal her digestion to the point where she can eat and refrain from taking medications for digestive purposes.

Peter was perplexed by the digestive issues his wife encountered and located a training program for Nutritional Therapy Practitioners and another for learning about the GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) diet.  By putting the pieces together that started with uncovering issues with food in an average person’s diet and then changing their diet completely, Peter and Shirley were both able to overcome health issues.

As they changed their diet, Peter’s psoriasis, a chronic, often untreatable condition, went away as well.  Peter’s historically high cholesterol lowered.  This book is their attempt to share what worked for them in terms of healing with the hope that their journey might help others.  Anyone embarking on a similar journey should consult a medical professional to make sure any intended changes are right for that individual.
